Dental Anxiety Care
Dental anxiety. Dentistry for patients afraid of dentistry.
Dental anxiety can be devastating. It has been estimated that up to 20% of North Americans have a dental phobia and upwards of 50% of us harbour some reservations about visiting the dentist. These feelings can lead to people avoiding their regular check-ups and hygiene visits, thereby compromising their oral health and sometimes even their overall health. At Eatonville Dental, we want to make it easy for you to get back on track with your dental care. As no two people are alike, finding a dentist that you feel comfortable with when you have dental anxiety is that much more important. Delivering comfortable dentistry in a safe manner is our goal and #1 priority. We want you to meet us before you make any commitments to becoming a patient of our practice with a free, no obligation visit. The more questions you have for us, the better. Let’s get to know each other!
Oral Conscious Sedation
To relieve the very real and often debilitating anxiety associated with dental phobia, we also offer oral conscious sedation, also known as sedation dentistry. Patients who feel stressed about dental work, as well as those who need multiple procedures performed in one visit can benefit from conscious sedation.
The procedure involves taking an oral sedative prior to your visit, then receiving nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to supplement the sedative’s effects. Your vital signs and comfort level are keenly monitored throughout your visit.
Commonly referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is used for its anxiety-easing and calming effects. It is very safe and can be used for all ages. The gas (a nitrous oxide and oxygen mixture) is inhaled through a face mask. The amount of gas that you receive is monitored and controlled by the dentist to ensure your safety. You will begin to relax and will not recognize pain, so the dentist can perform your dental work while you stay comfortable. The effects of nitrous oxide decrease once the mask is removed. If nitrous oxide is the only anesthesia that you receive, you will be capable of driving yourself home following the visit and can continue your daily activities as normal.
Our Recognition – Happy Patients!
Once, a curious patient asked me, “What is the highest recognition a dentist can get?” My answer was, “a happy patient”. We would like to thank all of our happy patients who nominated us and voted for Eatonville Dental to be honored the “Best Dentist” gold title in Etobicoke. We truly appreciate it!
