Orthodontic Treatment for Children

At Eatonville Dental with every dental exam, we assess your child’s bite, tooth eruption pattern and need for early orthodontic treatment. The initial evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age, treatment may not be necessary but the exam can reveal the most advantageous time to begin treatment. Early treatment improves speech development, breaks harmful oral habits such as thumb sucking, prevents the need for extractions in future orthodontic treatment and decreases the risk of breaking front teeth. At Eatonville Dental, if your child’s dentist feels that orthodontic treatment may benefit your child’s oral health, they will recommend a free consultation with Dr. Briza Silva or Dr. Leo Kovbel.

If your child is currently in active orthodontic treatment, we recommend that your child has dental cleanings every 3-4 months to help keep their gums healthy, teeth clean and also as a reminder to your child of the importance of great home care. Unless your child is an exception to the rule, home dental hygiene is quite compromised while wearing braces. It is not uncommon to see an increase in cavities, gingivitis, and decalcification (white spots around brackets) during this period of time. This is why we recommend at least every 3-4 month hygiene visits to decrease the negative effects of increased plaque and calculus. Our Hygienists have the tools to do the job right. Straight teeth are important, but it is even more important that the teeth stay healthy and strong during the process.

Types of Orthodontics:

Conventional Braces

Conventional braces involve the use of brackets that are bonded to the teeth. These brackets allow us to control the teeth more accurately so that we can fine tune their relationship to one another and create that beautiful smile.

Invisible Braces

Invisalign® braces uses new technology to offer you the straightest way to a great smile. The new removable invisible aligners will straighten your teeth without anyone realizing you are receiving orthodontic treatment. With Invisalign®, there are no metal wires or brackets, only proven results. It is a comfortable and convenient way to straighten teeth and to have a beautiful smile.

Functional orthopedics

Functional orthopedics are a great way to help younger patients avoid many conditions, such as, poor sleep habits, TMJ pain, sleep apnea, small lower jaws (weak chin profile) and proud upper teeth (buck teeth) that my lead to poor self-image.
